Poland stands for lifting of ristrictions on import of Ukrainian agricultural products

Ukraine and the EU should resume regular trade with no restrictions previously imposed at the request of Poland, stated President of Poland Andrzej Duda at a press conference in Kyiv today, Eurointegration.com reports.

He said he considers it reasonable to lift restrictions on trade between Ukraine and the EU.

"I hope that these measures will be cancelled as soon as possible," Duda said.

The current restrictions expire on September 15, with no earlier lifting planned. Maintaining the restrictions for the next two months is necessary for certain preparations that are already underway, Duda added.

"This time is needed to avoid events that have a negative social impact and to develop mechanisms that will allow for the exchange of commodities and transit without negative effects," the Polish president said.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had also received confirmation of such plans from the European Commissioner for Internal Market of the EU, Thierry Breton.

"We will wait and see how it will be unblocked, but he [the Commissioner – ed.] assured me that there will be no further blocking after September 15," Zelenskyy said.

Earlier in June, the European Commission eased restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products to five European countries — Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria — and committed to gradually lift them.
