Vilia starts durum wheat flour production
Volyn-Zerno-Product (TM VILIA) has launched the production of durum wheat flour at its modern mill, Yaroslav Mazurenko, the company's head of agricultural production department, announced at New Food Summit 2024.
The mill's processing capacity is 150 tons per day of soft wheat and slightly less than 120 tons per day of durum wheat.
The technological process of switching to durum wheat processing with modern equipment is not complicated, unlike outdated mills which are reluctant to take on such processing, Mazurenko added.
"We have been growing durum wheat since 2015 and have experimented with milling it into cereals and flour. As of today, we have 10,000 tons of milling durum wheat of this year's harvest,"he said.
The company produces durum wheat flour for domestic consumption but is looking to export it.
Mazurenko mentioned that durum wheat is 50% more expensive to grow than soft wheat, but selling durum flour on the domestic market can only return 20% of the costs.
The mill construction was completed in June 2023. It is equipped with Bühler machinery.
