Ukraine’s agri-food exports to Asia and Europe decline in H1 2025
Ukraine exported $11.3 billion worth of agri-food products in January–June 2025, down 9% from $12.45 billion a year earlier, according to the Institute of Agrarian Economics.
Agri-food exports accounted for about 57% of the country’s total exports. The European Union, Asia, and Africa remained the top markets, collectively generating 92% of export revenues.
Exports to the EU fell by 14% to $5.39 billion, while shipments to Asia dropped by 10% to $3.51 billion. Exports to Africa were nearly unchanged at $1.47 billion.
Turkey became the largest buyer of Ukrainian food products ($1.45 billion), followed by Spain (8% of total value), with Algeria also entering the top 10 ($289 million). The top ten markets accounted for 60% of total export revenues.
Grains ($3.99 billion), vegetable oils and fats ($3.16 billion), oilseeds ($996 million), processing residues ($741 million), and meat and by-products ($581 million) were the key export categories, together generating 84% of revenue.
Despite growth in meat and oil exports, the Institute noted that it was insufficient to offset the decline in grain, oilseed, and processing product sales. While the overall decline is not yet critical, it highlights the need for trade diversification, new market development, and a better balance between domestic and foreign demand.
