Ma’Rijany Hemp Industrial Park plans to double processing capacity
The Ma’Rijany Industrial Park in Zhytomyr region is planning to double its processing capacity for industrial hemp, according to Dmytro Kysylevskyi, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development.
As of early August, the plant has an annual processing capacity of 10,000 tons of hemp. With sown areas expected to expand to 4,000 hectares, the facility aims to reach 20,000 tons of raw material processing annually.
There are more than 1,600 hectares of industrial hemp sown within a 20-kilometre radius of the park.
"Ma’Rijany Industrial Park is now actively encouraging farmers in the Zhytomyr region to shift away from unstable and politically sensitive grain exports to the EU and instead sign long-term contracts with a domestic customer for a promising and historically traditional Ukrainian crop. Global demand for hemp fibre is growing, providing stronger financial security for farms that partner with the industrial park," Kysylevskyi noted.
He added that the park has sufficient space to accommodate future stages of deeper hemp processing.
In May, the Ma’Rijany Industrial Park launched Ukraine’s largest facility for the primary processing of industrial hemp. Ma’Rijany Hemp Company restored an old flax plant and built a modern production line with a capacity of 14,000 tons per year.
