Ukraine begins sunflower and soybean harvest 2025

As of August 22, Ukraine has started harvesting sunflowers and soybeans, according to operational data from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.

The first 3.2 thousand hectares of sunflowers were harvested in Odesa (2.2 thousand ha) and Dnipropetrovsk (1 thousand ha) regions, yielding 1.8 thousand tons at an average productivity of 0.56 t/ha. Soybeans were harvested on 0.03 thousand ha in Kharkiv region, with 0.1 thousand tons threshed at 2.67 t/ha.

Meanwhile, the rapeseed harvest is nearly complete — 1.283 million ha have been harvested (101% of the planned area), yielding 3.163 million tons at an average productivity of 2.47 t/ha.

As of August 22, grain and leguminous crops were harvested from 6.7 million ha (60% of the target), producing 27.3 million tons at an average yield of 4.07 t/ha. For comparison, a year earlier at this date, 28.6 million tons had been harvested from 6.76 million ha (average yield — 4.23 t/ha).

By crop, the results are as follows:

  • Wheat — 21.01 mln t from 4.873 mln ha (98% of target) at 4.31 t/ha;

  • Barley — 4.971 mln t from 1.305 mln ha (95%) at 3.81 t/ha;

  • Peas — 581.7 thsd t from 258.6 thsd ha (106%) at 2.24 t/ha;

  • Buckwheat — 1.3 thsd t from 0.5 thsd ha (1%) at 2.49 t/ha;

  • Millet — 3.09 thsd t from 3.5 thsd ha (5%) at 0.88 t/ha.

The leading regions by harvest volume are Odesa (3.44 mln t from 1.08 mln ha), Vinnytsia (2.39 mln t from 423.7 thsd ha), and Kirovohrad (2.2 mln t from 533.4 thsd ha).
