Biomethane plant to be launched in Khmelnytskyi region, doubling Ukraine’s existing capacity

A new biomethane plant operated by Teofipol Energy Company in Khmelnytskyi region is set to begin operations within the next few weeks, according to Georgii Geletukha, Head of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, as reported by Delo.ua.

The plant will produce 56 million cubic meters of biomethane per year. According to Geletukha, it is the largest project in the sector connected directly to the gas transmission system rather than to gas distribution networks.

Currently, Ukraine already has biomethane production facilities with a combined capacity of 52 million cubic meters per year, including:

  • Hals Agro (Chernihiv region) — 3 million cubic meters per year, connected to the gas distribution network.
  • Vitargo Group (Khmelnytskyi region) — 3 million cubic meters per year, connected to the gas distribution network.
  • YM Liquid Gas (Vinnytsia region) — 11 million cubic meters per year, connected via Bio-LNG.
  • MHP (Vinnytsia region) — 24 million cubic meters per year, connected via Bio-LNG.
  • MHP (Dnipropetrovsk region) — 11 million cubic meters per year, connected to the gas distribution network.

Following the launch of the Teofipol plant, Ukraine’s total biomethane production capacity will reach 108 million cubic meters per year. All current biomethane output is exported.
