Record pea harvest in Ukraine turns into marketing challenges — analysts
The 2025/26 season has become paradoxical for Ukraine’s pea market: a record harvest has been accompanied by record marketing difficulties. Despite a significant increase in production, exports of the crop slowed sharply in the first half of the marketing year, UkrAgroConsult reports.
By the end of the season, pea production in Ukraine reached 653,000 tons, up 40% year-on-year and the highest level in the past seven years. At the same time, export activity proved to be unusually low.
Between July and December 2025, Ukraine exported only 160,000 tons of peas, down 34% year-on-year. This accounts for roughly one-third of the season’s total export potential, whereas in previous years, 60–70% of volumes were typically shipped to foreign markets by the middle of the marketing year.
This dynamic has resulted in an oversupply on the domestic market, which in turn is increasing price pressure on producers.
