One million hectares of land sold in Ukraine since farmland market opened
Since the launch of the agricultural land market in July 2021, more than 330,000 purchase and sale agreements have been concluded in Ukraine. The total area of land that has changed ownership during this period has reached 1 million hectares, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk said during the United News Telemarathon.
According to him, the average price per hectare has increased by 96% since the market was launched and, as of early 2026, exceeds UAH 64,000 per hectare.
Sumy region leads in the number of concluded deals, with more than 32,000 land plots sold. Other regions with the most active markets include Poltava and Chernihiv regions. The lowest number of transactions has been recorded in Volyn, Rivne, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Currently, about 3% of Ukraine’s total agricultural land area is in market circulation.
As Bashlyk noted, there are currently two main categories of buyers in the land market: farmers who purchase land for cultivation and investors who view land as a long-term asset and lease it out.
