ADM suspends operations at Chornomorsk plant after Russian attack

ADM confirmed that operations at its oil extraction plant in Chornomorsk have been suspended following damage caused by Russia's drone attack on April 26, 2026. The company informed Latifundist.com in response to an editorial inquiry.

Earlier, market participants told us that ADM halted operations at the Chornomorsk plant in late April following the Russian strike. According to their information, the company also temporarily suspended raw material procurement.

According to Latifundist.com sources, one of the storage tanks was damaged during the attack, causing a partial oil spill. Several other tanks were reportedly hit by shrapnel. Repair work and damage assessment are currently underway at the facility.

ADM confirmed both the damage and the suspension of operations.

“Operations at ADM’s oilseed crushing plant in Chornomorsk, Ukraine, remain suspended following damage caused by a drone strike on April 26, 2026. The safety of our employees remains our highest priority, and we continue to closely monitor the situation,” the company said in a statement.

Context:

This is another case of damage to the Ukrainian assets of a major American company as a result of Russian attacks. Earlier, The New York Times reported on a strike targeting a grain terminal owned by Cargill in southern Ukraine. According to the publication, seven Russian drones hit the facility in less than three minutes.

Besides Cargill, assets belonging to Coca-Cola, Mondelēz, Philip Morris, Boeing, and Bunge are among those affected.

In February, representatives of Coca-Cola, Cargill, and Bunge met with a bipartisan group of U.S. senators during their visit to Ukraine.

“From what we heard, they believe the strikes were deliberate,” Senator Jeanne Shaheen told NYT.

In April 2026, it became known that ADM was selling its last grain elevator asset in Ukraine. Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Committee approved the acquisition of the elevator by OLIMP, which is among Ukraine’s Top 100 largest farmland operators.

The deal concerns the ADM Kamianskyi elevator in Cherkasy region, which has a storage capacity of 64 KMT in metal silos and flat warehouses.

Following the completion of the transaction, the company will no longer own assets directly intended for grain storage in Ukraine. Another elevator asset, Tavriiskyi, was destroyed as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war.
