Ukraine’s ports increase cargo throughput despite near-daily Russian strikes
In April 2026, Ukraine’s seaports handled 8.2 million tons of cargo, up 35.8% year-on-year despite a sharp increase in Russia's attacks on port infrastructure, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
According to the agency, the intensity of drone strikes increased significantly: more than 500 UAV attacks on logistics facilities were recorded during the month alone. In practice, Ukrainian ports came under fire almost every other day.
Despite the escalation, the ports have maintained uninterrupted operations and continued fulfilling contractual obligations, the USPA noted.
Overall, in January–April 2026, Ukraine’s seaports handled 29.5 million tons of cargo, exceeding the figure for the same period in 2025. Grain traditionally accounted for the largest share of cargo traffic at 16 million tons, up 7% year-on-year.
