Russia attacks wheat-carrying vessel in Black Sea, killing Ukrainian seafarer
A Ukrainian seafarer was killed after Russia attacked the civilian bulk carrier MERA QUEEN, sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau and carrying Ukrainian wheat in the Black Sea on the evening of Aug. 5, according to Odesa Region Military Administration Governor Oleg Kiper and the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
Three other people were injured in the strike.
According to Kiper, the attack damaged the vessel's hull and triggered a fire on board. The crew was evacuated ashore, and the injured are receiving medical treatment.
The USPA said that as of 06:00 a.m. on Aug. 6, the vessel had been moored alongside a berth. Emergency response teams are carrying out initial operations to contain the consequences of the strike and stabilise the vessel's technical condition.
