Global production of sunflower in MY 2017/18 to decrease by 1 MT

Global production of sunflower seeds in MY 2017/18 will decrease by 1-1.1 million tons.

UkrAgroConsult with the reference to the Oil World experts reports that the basic decrease in the overall indicator is based on the shortage of the oilseed crop in the main producers — Russia and Ukraine. According to analysts' estimations, Russia will lack 0.5 million tons of sunflower harvest this year, the total harvest of which will amount to 11.2 million tons.

The main reason for the loss of part of the crop experts note a delay in the pace of harvesting campaign compared to the average. The delayed harvesting campaign can lead to more losses.

It is noted that due to unfavorable weather conditions during the vegetation season, Ukrainian agrarians will harvest 2 million tons of sunflower less. The total yield of sunflower in Ukraine is estimated at about 13.2 million tons.

"The world processing of sunflower seeds in MY 2017/18 is reduced to 44 million tons against 44.76 million tons expected earlier," analysts said.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine in January-October 2017 exported 62.98 thousand tons of sunflower seeds for the amount of USD 25.98 million.
