Corn for grain is planted on 4.2 mln hectares

As of May 16, planting of corn for grain is completed on 4.2 mln hectares or on 91% of the planned areas.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine informs that spring grain and leguminous crops (including corn) are sown on the area of 6.6 mln hectares (90% of the projected 7.4 mln hectares), in particular:

  • wheat — 165 thou. ha (95%);
  • barley — 1.5 mln ha (93%);
  • oats — 185 thou. ha (91%);
  • peas — 414 thou. ha (98%);
  • buckwheat — 57 thou. ha (38%);
  • millet — 26 thou. ha (48%).

Sowing of the following industrial crops is in progress:

  • sugar beet — 280 thou. ha (94%);
  • sunflower — 5.2 mln ha (94%);
  • soybean — 1.5 mln ha (76%).

Previously it was reported that in 2018 sowing of sunflower was conducted at a record pace despite the fact that the sowing campaign had begun in mid-April.
