Rapeseed processing down 12% in 2017/18

In MY2017/18, rapeseed processing in Ukraine reached 140 thou. tons, which is 12% less than the previous season, APK-Inform reports.

"Over the past five seasons, this indicator is minimal, although the potential for rapeseed processing was much higher, given the almost double increase in the supply of oilseeds. Rapeseed is still exported from Ukraine as a raw material, rather than the processed product, due to high demand from the EU countries, South Asia, and the Middle East. This supports prices, which in turn become unacceptably high for many processors and reduce the margin of processing," says Julia Ivanitskaya, oilseed market analyst at APK-Inform Agency.

The following companies are the key processors of rapeseed in MY2017/18:

  • Oliyar — 43% (of the total processed volume);
  • Vinnytsia OFFP (ViOil Industrial Group) — 24%;
  • Gradoliya OEP — 9%;
  • ADM Illichevsk (ADM, Archer Daniels Midland Company) — 7%;
  • Zapad-Agroinvest — 4%.

Reference: according to Oil World experts, the global production of rapeseed and canola in MY2018/19 is expected to reach the maximum for the last 4 seasons — 66.6 million tons, which is 0.3 million tons more than the result of MY2017/18 (66.3 million tons).
