Ukraine may supply 1 mln tons of sunflower meal to China

Sunflower meal for Chinese consumers is a new product and, most importantly, — it is GMO-free, APK-Inform reports.

According to Andrei Grishchenko, Head of the Oil and Oilseeds Department of Sinofarm Ukraine, sunflower meal is currently in demand on the Chinese market. In view of the trade war, China is actively looking for alternative options for protein group of products import.

"Speaking of sunflower meal, Ukraine will become a key partner for China. After all, with the export potential for the current season of 4.6 million tons, Ukraine can substantially cover the Chinese demand," says a representative of the Chinese importing company.

He adds that the Chinese statistical agency claims that there are currently high stocks of soybeans and meal in China (soybeans — 6.6 million tons, soybean meal — 1.21 million tons). In the new season, the demand for Ukrainian sunflower meal is expected at the level of 1 million tons.

Reference: in 2018, China may reduce imports of soybeans by 10 million tons due to an increase in external procurement of low-protein products (rapeseed, sunflower meal, palm kernel cake), which will reduce China's dependence on supplies of American soy.
