Corn harvest in Ukraine approaches 5 mln tons

As of September 26, 2018, the Ukrainian agrarians harvested 4.7 million tons of corn from an area of 830.000 hectares (18%) with the productivity of 5.67 tons/ha.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports that so far grain and leguminous crops yield amounts to 10.9 million tons. The average productivity stands at 3.62 tons/ha.

The following yields are reported:

  • early grain and leguminous crops — 34.3 million tons from 9.9 million hectares with a productivity of 3.48 tons/ha;
  • buckwheat — 101 thou. tons from 79 thou. hectares (73%) with a productivity of 1.27 tons/ha;
  • millet — 61 thou. tons from 39 thou. hectares (74%) with a productivity of 1.59 tons/ha.

Harvesting of industrial crops has reached the following results:

  • sunflower — 7.7 million tons from 3.6 million hectares (59%) with a productivity of 2.15 tons/ha;
  • soybean — 1.6 million tons from 638 thou. hectares (37%) with a productivity of 2.44 tons/ha;
  • rapeseed — 2.7 million tons from 1 million hectares with a productivity of 2.61 tons/ha;
  • sugar beet — 2.1 million tons from 44 thou. hectares (16%) with a productivity of 48.5 tons/ha.

Note: in 2019, the sown area of organic amaranth in Ukraine may increase twofold and amount to 500 hectares.
