Thirty agriproducers in Ukraine cultivate hemp

In Ukraine, industrial hemp is grown for the production of fiber and seeds. In recent years, is sown by about thirty Ukrainian agricultural companies, and 6 years ago there were only three of them, AgroTimes informs.

In 2018, the area under hemp in Ukraine does not exceed 1.5 thou. hectares, whereas in 2016 they reached 3.47 thou. hectares.

The reason for the decrease is the insignificant development of hemp processing industry and the lack of a state producer support strategy.

Today, in the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine, seven varieties of industrial hemp of the Institute of Bast Crops are listed. These varieties can be grown not only in Ukraine but also in the countries of the European Union, in the Americas and in Asia.

Earlier it was reported that the former mayor of Glukhov (Sumy region) and businessman Michel Tereshchenko sold his flax and hemp business.
