Grain crop in Ukraine hits 60 mln tons

As of November 1, 2018, the Ukrainian agrarians harvested 58.9 million tons of grain on the area of 13.5 million hectares (91%) with the productivity of 4.36 tons/ha.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports the following yields:

  • early grain and leguminous crops — 34.3 million tons on 9.9 million hectares with a productivity of 3.48 tons/ha;
  • corn — 23.1 million tons on 3.3 million hectares (72%) with a productivity of 7.05 tons/ha;
  • buckwheat — 134 thou. tons on 106 thou. hectares (98%) with a productivity of 1.26 tons/ha;
  • millet — 77 thou. tons on 50 thou. hectares (96%) with a productivity of 1.55 tons/ha.

Harvesting of industrial crops has reached the following results:

  • sunflower — 13.2 million tons on 5.9 million hectares (97%) with a productivity of 2.24 tons/ha;
  • soybean — 4.1 million tons on 1.6 million hectares (95%) with a productivity of 2.54 tons/ha;
  • rapeseed — 2.7 million tons on 1 million hectares with a productivity of 2.61 tons/ha;
  • sugar beet — 10.7 million tons on 221 thou. hectares (79%) with a productivity of 48.5 tons/ha.

Along with the harvest, autumn sowing campaign is in progress. Thus, agrarians sowed 7 million hectares of winter crops (97%), with a projected area of 7.2 million hectares. In addition, winter rapeseed with a forecast area of 888 thou. hectares is sown on 1 million hectares (115%).

By FAO forecasts, the global grain production in 2018 is expected at 2 601 million tons, up nearly 10 million tons from the previous month’s forecast, but still 57 million tons (2.1%) below the 2017 record level.
