80% of produced sunflower meal traded abroad

In MY2017/18, Ukraine produced 5.2 million tons of sunflower meal and cake, of which 4.2 million tons were exported. This was informed by Julia Ivanitskaya, the oil markets analyst at APK-Inform, Agrotimes informs.

According to her, favourable global prices for meal in the first quarter of 2018, supported by crop failure in Argentina and forecasts for a significant reduction in the production and export of soybean meal, stimulated active export shipments.

The reason for the growth of meal prices in Ukraine was the start of its exports to China. So, China entered the TOP-10 importers, and by the results of the season is in the top five consumers with more than 150 thou. tons of imports.

“So far, this is only 4% of the total Ukrainian exports of this product, and it is likely that in the future China may become the number one market for Ukrainian sunflower meal,” Julia Ivanitskaya noted.

Responding to the growing global demand for protein products, Ukraine is strengthening its role in supplying oilseed meals to the global market. In MY2018/19, Ukraine may increase the export of sunflower, soybean and rapeseed meals.
