Grain shipments dropped 16 pct

In the period from February 16 to February 22, 894 thou. tons of main grain crops were exported from the Ukrainian seaports. This indicator is 16 pct less than the volume shipped in the prior year's comparative period — 1.071 million tons, the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

The decrease in the total export of wheat amounted to 201 thou. tons (205 thou. tons a week earlier), corn exports decreased to 683 thou. tons (866 thou. tons a week earlier).

The top-3 importers are China (259 thou. tons), Turkey (137 thou. tons) and the Netherlands (119 thou. tons).

The leading position in terms of the transshipment volume of main crops in the current marketing year is held by the port of Mykolaiv (7.7 million tons). The ports of Chernomorsk and Yuzhny provided for the transshipment of 6.6 million tons and 5.7 million tons, respectively.

In January of the current year, grain transshipment in the seaports of Ukraine increased by more than 20 pct.
