ViOil develops a USD 20 mln sunflower husk processing project

Vinnytsya Oil and Fat Plant, a structural division of the ViOil Industrial Group, plans to implement a project for the production of electricity by means of burning sunflower seed husk. This was informed by Yaroslav Belinkyi, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Technical Issues of Vinnytsya OFP, Ukrinform writes.

“In the production of sunflower oil, the husk is a waste. In the framework of this project, it will be burned like biomass in a boiler that will produce high-pressure steam. The steam will pass through the turbine and generate electricity. That is, it is a cogeneration plant. The estimated cost of the project is about USD 20 million,” Yaroslav Belinkyi said.

According to him, the project is in the development phase of design and estimate documentation. Now the management of the company is considering the project financing. The estimated payback period is 5 years. Its implementation will take Vinnytsya OFP 18 months.

“The estimated production volume of “green” electricity is from 7 to 9 MW. It will be sold to the power grid at a “green” tariff. The capacity of the cogeneration plant will be determined by the fuel balance since at present a part of the sunflower husk is used by the enterprise for its own needs, and the surplus is sold as fuel,” the message says.

Earlier it was reported that Vinnytsya OFP processed more than 100 thou. tons of high-oleic (HO) sunflower seeds and produced more than 40 thou. tons of high-oleic sunflower oil.
