Sunflower harvesting started in Mykolaiv region

As of August 20, farmers of Mykolayiv region have completed harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops and started sunflower campaign.

Sunflower is harvested from an area of 1.8 thousand hectares. The first 2.8 thousand tons of seeds were harvested using the average yield of 1.53 tons per hectare. In addition, 2.3 thousand tons of grain crops were harvested on 1.4 thousand hectares using the average yield of 1.62 tons per hectare.

The total area of late grain crops to be harvested amounts to 650 thou. ha, including:

  • millet — 5.8 thou. ha;
  • buckwheat — 2.7 thou. ha;
  • corn — 114.8 thou. ha;
  • sorghum — 5.7 thou. ha;
  • sunflower — 488 thou. ha;
  • soybean — 7.7 thou. ha.

Along with harvesting works, sowing of winter rapeseed for the harvest 2020 has begun, having reached 27.9 thousand hectares already (41% of the forecast).
