European suppliers dominate tomato export to Ukraine

In January-August 2019, Ukraine imported 58.49 thou. t of tomatoes worth USD 37.17 mln.

By the data of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, the key importers in the reporting period are as followed:

  • Turkey — USD 30.4 mln, 81.80% of supplies;
  • Poland — USD 2.82 mln, 7.6%;
  • the Netherlands — USD 1.36 mln, 3.67%;
  • others — USD 2.58 mln, 6.94%.

The export of tomatoes from Ukraine in the reporting period amounted to 3.05 thou. t for the amount of USD 2.8 mln. Thus, the import of tomatoes to Ukraine is 18.9x higher from the export.

As a reminder, by September 2nd, Ukraine 100% filled the EU tariff import quotas for honey, sugar, fine-ground barley and flour, starch, processed tomatoes, grape and apple juices, corn and wheat.
