Ukraine might allow foreigners to buy land
According to UNN, Mykola Solskiy, Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, said that foreign citizens might get the right to buy Ukrainian land after the Government passes the law on the referendum and holds one.
"We also need a law on the referendum. It means that foreigners cannot participate in the land market until the law is passed, until the Government votes for it," explained Mykola Solskiy.
He stressed that the Government needs to take into account that some foreign companies have already moved their farming to Ukraine and have been investing in the land, thus, they need to be given the right to rent the land.
“We need to find a compromise,” concluded Mr. Solskyi.
However, ex-Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olga Trofimtseva predicts that the adoption of bill 2178-10 in yesterday’s first hearing will increase the disagreement between the supporters and adversaries of the land market reform and eventually block it.
