In 2019, the area under corn in Ukraine increased to 4.97 mln ha, 8.6% more from 2018. This grain crop has been demonstrating stable trends towards increasing areas in recent years. According to producers, the year 2020 will be no exception, SuperAgronom.com informs.

According to agrarians, the observed increase is partly due to the current problems with winter rapeseed: some areas that were planned for rapeseed will be resown due to poor emergence rate.

Market analysts note that Ukraine is gradually reorienting the structure of grain crops production in favour of corn, as this crop is high yielding, resistant to weather conditions and is in demand on international markets.

At present, corn production already accounts for more than 50% of the country's total grain output. This figure has been increasing gradually over the past 20 years.

As a reminder, Brazil is exporting corn at a torrid pace and if the pace continues, the country will end up with the smallest corn carryover in six years.
