Sunflower yields 44 pct higher in Ukraine than in Russia

Ukraine holds the leading position among key producers of sunflower in the year 2019 with 14.5 mln t of output, Kleffmann Group Ukraine informs.

Sunflower yielded 2.3 t/ha last year, 44% higher from the average crop productivity in Russia.

The global sunflower production in 2019 reached 51.22 mln t using the average productivity of 2 t/ha.

The rating of key sunflower producers in 2019 includes the following countries:

  1. Ukraine — 14.5 mln t, using the average productivity of 2.3 t/ha;
  2. Russia — 13 mln t, 1.6 t/ha;
  3. the EU — 9.8 mln t, 2.2 t/ha;
  4. Argentina — 3.5 mln t, 2.1 t/ha;
  5. China — 3.25 mln t, 2.6 t/ha;
  6. Turkey — 1.75 mln t, 2.4 t/ha;
  7. the U.S.A. — 1.02 mln t, 1.9 t/ha;
  8. Moldova — 0.9 mln t, 2.3 t/ha;
  9. Kazahstan — 0.8 mln t, 1 t/ha;
  10. the RSA — 0.75 mln t, 1.2 t/ha.

In terms of sunflower sown areas, Ukraine ranks 2nd in the world with 6.2 mln ha. The first place is occupied by Russia with 8 mln ha. Thus, sunflower areas in Ukraine are 23% less than in Russia.

Previously reported that in 2019 high-oleic sunflower areas in Ukraine were increased by apx. 40% (360 thou. ha) to 1.3 mln ha in major producing countries.
