Russia wheat production projected at 81 mln t

The bulk yield of wheat in Russia is projected at 81 mln t in 2020, an updated outlook of the analytical center Rusagrotrans shows, the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

The head of the center Igor Pavensky noted that the estimate was increased by 3.5 mln t compared to the previous center's forecast and is only lower than the record of 2017 when Russia harvested 86 mln t of grain.

"Such a dramatic increase in the estimate is attributed to record winter wheat yields in several regions of the Central and Volga Federal Districts. Besides, relatively high starting yields have been recorded in the Ural Federal District," the analyst explained.

He also reported that the average yield of Russia wheat in 2020 might reach 2.75 t/ha, 4% higher from the previous year's 2.65 t/ha. Igor Pavensky referred to the data of the Rosstat pointing that wheat areas in 2020 were expanded by 4.6% to record 29.4 mln ha.

"We estimate the export potential of Russian wheat in 2020/21 at 37.5-38 mln t (including shipments to the members of the Eurasian Economic Union)," Igor Pavensky stated.

As a reminder, the Egyptian national buyer GASC purchased 410 thou. t of Black Sea wheat on Aug 5 during the 8th tender for the new season. The GASC bought 295 thou. t sourced from Russia and 115 thou. t from Ukraine.
