Ukraine set new honey export record

Ukraine exported a record volume of honey within 11 months of 2020, the expert on value chain and marketing at FAO Anna Burka informed on Facebook.

"With less than a month left until 2021, there is already a record of honey export! The shipment of honey from Ukraine during 11 months has reached an absolute record of 69.8 thou. t with a total value of USD 117.5 mln. The previous record was set in 2017, it reached 67.8 thou. t (USD 133.9 mln)," commented Anna Burka.

She noted that the EU countries' increased demand for Ukrainian honey is driven by:

  • the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 global spread, resulting in active stocks formation for the entire 2020/21;
  • low honey production in the EU, the drop is estimated at 40%, as a result of adverse weather conditions.
