Persons involved in attempted assassination of Agrarian Minister detained, measures being considered

Law enforcers have detained two persons who intended the premeditated murder of a citizen of Ukraine, as well as kidnapping, extortion and infliction of severe physical injuries to one of the Cabinet ministers, Prosecutor General's Office reports.

According to investigators, a U.S. citizen was the orderer and arranger of these crimes. To settle the business disputes, he attracted a trusted person, found a contractor who was given part of the funds in the amount of $20,000.

Law enforcers documented the illegal activity and detained the organizers in the course of payment.

The U.S. citizen and his trusted person have been notified of suspicion of attempted murder, severe physical injury, kidnapping, and extortion. The preventive measures are under consideration.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that the U.S. embassy will cooperate with Ukrainian law enforcers in the investigation of this case. The U.S. citizen is presumed to have been involved in the attempted assassination of the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko.
