Ukraine agri-food commodities exports hit 10 mln t in 24 weeks of war
In the 5.5 months of russia's war against Ukraine, almost 10 mln t of agri-food commodities was exported. In the first two weeks of August, Ukraine delivered to foreign markets around 2 mln t of grain, whereas in July a total of 3 mln t was shipped. In the first half of August, corn formed the bulk of exports — 776,000 t, and wheat supplies made up 339,000 t.
Before the reopening of the ports of Big Odesa(The ports of Big Odesa include Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdenny) on August 1, nearly 8 mln t of agricultural commodities was shipped. Last year the volume of shipment in March-July was more than twice as high — 19.5 mln t, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports.
Corn dominates Ukraine's grain exports in March-July, its shipment totalled 3.849 mln t. Last season, corn shipment in the corresponding period reached 10 mln t, 37% above this season.
Sunflowerseed export came to 1.357 mln t in March-July, 99.4% up YoY. Sunflowerseed oil export supply dropped by 48% YoY to 935,731 t.
In the five months of the war, Ukraine managed to deliver 636,138 t of wheat to foreign markets. This volume makes up 16% of the amount of grain exported in March-July 2021 — 3.8 mln t.
Other commodities shipment in March-July 2022:
- barley: 239,113 t, which accounts for 17% of last season's exports
- soybeans: 372,659 t (March-July 2021: 301 thou. t)
- soybean oil: 77,679 t, 20% down YoY
- oilseed meals: 403 thou. t, which accounts for 22% of last season's exports

As of August 19, grain export from Ukraine dropped by around 52% YoY.
