Ukraine supplies 50 thou. t of wheat to Ethiopia and Somalia in humanitarian aid

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated UAH 420 mln for humanitarian aid to Ethiopia and Somalia.

As per the Government's Order No. 1040 of 16 September, the Government provided the Ministry of Internal Affairs (for the State Emergency Service) with funds to reimburse the cost of wheat grain (not lower than class 3) in the amount of up to 50 thou. t to support the people of Ethiopia and Somalia.

The government instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with the United Nations and the competent authorities of Ethiopia and Somalia on the delivery and payment for the transportation of grain from Odesa Commercial Seaport to these countries at the expense of international organizations.

The grain to be supplied as humanitarian aid is provided by the PJSC "State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine" (SFGCU).

The fourth vessel chartered by the UN — BC VANESSA — called at the port of Odesa yesterday, September 19. She is to be loaded with 30 thou. t of Ukrainian wheat for the people of Afghanistan under the World Food Programme (WFP). 0.65 mln t of grain has already been sent from Ukraine to Africa since August 5.

Maritime ports of Ukraine were blocked by russia since February 24, 2022, the day this country started a full-scale war against Ukraine until on 22 July a grain deal was signed in Turkey.
