Spring crops planting 2023 gains momentum in 18 regions

Spring crops planting campaign has started in 18 regions of Ukraine. By March 23, growers planted 293 thou. ha with grain and leguminous crops, the Agrarian Ministry updates.

The planted area as of March 23 by crops:

  • 168.1 barley
  • 76.1 wheat
  • 35.3 peas
  • 14.2 oats

Over the past week, 210 thou. ha of grain and leguminous crops was sown. Producers in Ternopil region planted the largest area — 47.2 thou. ha. Since the start of the campaign, agrarians of this region have covered the largest area — spring crops have been planted on 67.6 thou. ha.

Sugar beet sowing is progressing in Vinnytsya, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytsky and Cherkasy regions.

Odesa region is the first to have started sunflower planting.

The total area of winter and spring crops in Ukraine for the 2023 harvest is 19.3 mln ha (2022: 19.8 mln ha).
