Polish government determined to restrict import of Ukrainian grain

Poland is about to impose restrictions on grain imports from Ukraine. This is to prevent any destabilization of the Polish market, Wpost reports.

"We stand ready to help – to take this grain and export it to Africa. But we do not accept this grain entering our market and destabilizing it. I have ordered to introduce regulations that will limit the impact of Ukrainian grain on Poland," states prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Poland has already sent a letter to the European Commission to make "radical decisions." In addition, Warsaw is ready to go into conflict over the restriction of Ukrainian imports.

"The crisis is intense enough that today we are considering instruments for which we do not have the consent of the European Commission. I am saying this openly. In the best case scenario, we will face a delayed punishment," the head of the government adds.

The Polish government is poised to introduce subsidies for farmers to transport wheat and corn to Baltic ports.

Romania and Poland are pushing for an increase in compensation from the European Commission for the surge of Ukrainian grain imports.
