Agrain completes winter wheat sowing — acreage reduced in favor of more profitable crops and crop rotation adjustments
The farms of the Agrain Group have completed their winter wheat sowing campaign. The work was carried out within the planned timeframe despite challenging weather conditions early in the season.
“We began sowing winter wheat immediately after harvesting sunflower to make the most efficient use of soil moisture. The season was quite contrasting: early September saw a lack of moisture, while October brought excessive rainfall. However, thanks to precise planning and coordinated teamwork, all fields were sown on time. We used modern Horsch Pronto 6DC and Horsch Focus seeders, which allow simultaneous soil cultivation and application of mineral fertilizers,” said Taras Korniienko, Chief Agronomist of the group.
According to him, the first wave of crops has already emerged, showing uniform germination, while mild weather and sufficient soil moisture are promoting active root development.
This year, Agrain allocated more than 13,000 hectares for winter wheat across five regions — Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Odesa, and Kharkiv. Compared to last season, the sown area decreased by about 12%, due to adjustments in crop rotation and a focus on more profitable crops.
