Economy ministry forecasts Ukraine’s corn harvest completed in March

Ukraine has harvested around 29 million tons of corn out of the forecasted more than 30 million tons so far. Approximately 5–7% of the crop remains in the fields, said Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi in an interview with Biznes.Censor.

“The harvest will most likely be completed in March. This is not unprecedented for Ukraine — similar situations have occurred in previous years. The delay may affect the marketability and quality of the grain,” he said.

Vysotskyi added that there are no grounds to suggest a total loss of the corn remaining in the fields. The issue concerns a potential decline in quality indicators rather than an automatic loss of the crop.

According to him, additional carryover stocks could exceed 10 million tons of grain, but “in the context of Ukraine’s production and export volumes, this is not a critical amount.” It does not appear capable of significantly destabilizing the domestic market or causing a price collapse.

“Carryover stocks will remain — this is normal practice for any season. The key question is what the new harvest will be and how fast exports will move at the start of the next marketing year. That will determine the balance and price situation,” Vysotskyi noted.
