Kernel’s vegetable oil transshipment terminal in Chornomorsk caught fire after Russia's drone attack, operations suspended

On the night of May 3, a massive Russia's UAV attack damaged Kernel’s vegetable oil transshipment terminal in Chornomorsk.

As a result of direct hits, storage tanks were destroyed and damaged, causing a spill of over 1,100 tons of product. The leak was quickly contained, and the oil did not reach the sea, posing no environmental threat, the company said in a statement.

The strike triggered a large-scale fire that engulfed part of the production facilities. It was promptly extinguished. The fire and drone debris damaged equipment, office premises, and logistics infrastructure. Four rail tank cars were also damaged.

Due to the significant destruction, the facility has suspended the intake and shipment of products. One employee sustained moderate injuries from shrapnel. He received medical assistance, and his life is not in danger.

Work is ongoing to eliminate the consequences of the attack and assess the scale of infrastructure damage.

“Despite the temporary loss of operational capacity at the Chornomorsk terminal, the company is ensuring the fulfillment of export contracts and uninterrupted deliveries to customers. To this end, Kernel is utilizing partner port terminals in Odesa and on the Danube, as well as land logistics, including rail transportation,” the company stated.
