Agricultural products account for 60% of Ukraine's exports in H1 2026
Ukraine's agricultural and food exports rose 11% year-on-year to $12.6 billion in the first half of 2026, accounting for 60% of the country's total exports, while Turkey became the largest single buyer of Ukrainian agricultural products, according to Mykola Puhachov, deputy director of the National Scientific Centre Institute of Agrarian Economics.
According to the State Customs Service, Ukraine exported $12.592 billion worth of agricultural and food products in January-June 2026, up 11% from the same period a year earlier.
Calculations by the Institute of Agrarian Economics show that agricultural and food products accounted for 60% of Ukraine's total exports during the first six months of the year.
The European Union, Asia and Africa remained the main destinations for Ukrainian food exports, together accounting for 91% of the total value of agricultural exports.
The European Union was Ukraine's largest regional market, importing $6.01 billion worth of agricultural products, or 47.7% of total agricultural exports, nearly 12% more than a year earlier.
Exports to Asia reached $3.875 billion, up 10% year-on-year, while shipments to Africa totalled $1.617 billion, also up 10%.
Turkey ranked as the largest individual importer of Ukrainian agricultural products in the first half of the year, purchasing $1.572 billion worth of goods, equivalent to 12.5% of total agricultural exports.
Italy and Spain ranked second and third among the largest importers, with purchases totalling $1.001 billion and $984 million, respectively.
Grain remained Ukraine's leading agricultural export, generating $4.716 billion in revenue, followed by vegetable oils and fats at $3.615 billion, residues and waste from the food industry at $808 million, oilseeds at $795 million, and meat and edible offal at $589 million. Together, these product groups accounted for about 84% of export earnings from agricultural and food products.
According to Puhachov, the increase in the value of agricultural exports in 2026 was primarily driven by higher revenues from grain, vegetable oil, processed food products and meat exports, while export earnings from oilseeds declined.
