The return of the EU duty on corn imports will not affect Ukrainian exporters — Trofimtseva

The return of the EU duty on corn imports will not affect the annual quota of duty-free imports under the FTA. Therefore, in terms of tariff quotas this will not affect the Ukrainian exporters in any way.

This is told by Olga Trofimtseva, Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Deputy Minister for European Integration in the interview with AgroPolit.com.

She noted that the duty will not affect the price policy in the domestic grain market of Ukraine.

"The European Union's decision to change the amount of fee is solely its own policy. But we can formulate our proposals. In particular, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine has already announced the intention to initiate a review of the terms of free trade, the possibility of a customs union and other additional mechanisms within the FTA with the EU," Olga Trofimtseva says.

The Deputy Minister adds that all duties are temporary.

"Duties will be applied depending on the market situation and on the growth of demand in the markets for these products. The noticeable effect of the introduction of these temporary duties on the world market of corn is not expected," summs up Olga Trofimtseva.

Reference: the European Union introduced a duty on the import of corn, rye and sorghum in the amount of €10.95 per ton.
