Radekhiv Sugar applies American sugar beet storage technology
Radekhiv Sugar (Pfeifer & Langen) started a project on the long-term storage of sugar beet.
The enterprise learned from the experience of the U.S. manufacturers, who managed to develop the technology of such storage of raw materials. To date, they have managed to extend the processing season of beets to 10 months. For comparison, in Ukraine, the average duration of the season is 4 months.
“This year, the Chortkiv branch of the enterprise is conducting an experiment with medium-term storage of raw materials. For comparison, the beets were laid in two piles: one with active ventilation, and the second — without it. Pile without ventilation after 8 days started self-heating and lost its condition. But the raw materials stored in piles with ventilation for one and a half months showed no signs of self-heating and destruction,” the company notes.
At this stage, the experiment is successful. The company will continue working on the project. In several years, it is planned to extend the sugar beet processing season from 4 to 7 months.
As reported earlier, mills in Ukraine produced 1.64 million tons of sugar as of December 19, 2018.
