Sugar trade dropped twofold

In June 2018/19, Ukrainian sugar producers delivered 24.8 thou. tons of beet sugar to foreign markets, 40 percent less from May indicator.

"Azerbaijan remained the main importer of Ukrainian sugar in June, while Libya imported no less volumes — these two countries account for 28 percent of total exports. In addition, significant supplies were made to Georgia and Tajikistan — 12 and 10 percent, respectively," said Ruslana Butylo, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine (Ukrsugar).

According to the report, a total of 403 thou. tons of sugar were exported in 10 months of 2018/19, 20 percent less from the relevant period last year.

"It is likely that sugar exports will amount to about 500 thou. tons by the results of the current marketing year. This is approximately 10 percent less from the previous year. The decrease in supply volumes is a result of low world sugar prices and unfavourable market conditions," summed up Ruslana Butylo.

Earlier it was reported that the number of functioning sugar factories in Ukraine would decrease by 8 percent to 34-35 enterprises in the coming production season 2019/20.
