Agrain harvests early grains in southern regions, rapeseed harvest close to completion

Agroprime Holding, a subsidiary of Agrain agro group, started harvesting rapeseed, wheat and barley. According to the company's deputy chief agronomist Taras Kornienko, favourable weather conditions facilitate the campaign in Bessarabia(Bessarabia is a historical region in Eastern Europe. In Ukraine it covers parts of Odesa and Chernivtsi regions.).

"We are harvesting what is left of the frost and spring drought. We've already harvested rapeseed. Of the 2,600 ha under the crop, there is 260 ha left to thresh. Rapeseed yields 0.7 t/ha. We have just started harvesting winter barley. In addition to three adverse factors — frost, drought and pests spread, the fourth factor that affected the yield was rain during the start of the harvesting campaign. So, we are now harvesting barley with a yield of 1 t/ha. About 400-500 ha of barley remains to be harvested of the total of 3,000 ha," Taras Kornienko says.

He adds that 4 thou. ha of wheat is left to harvest out of 12 thou. ha.

Agrain's production branches in the central, northern and eastern parts of the country plan to start winter rapeseed harvest around July 8. In Kharkiv region, the wheat campaign will start on July 12.

"Harvest season has shifted only in Bessarabia. We had planned to start harvesting wheat on June 26 but started on June 30. Precipitation delayed the terms of the barley harvesting campaign: originally, it was planned to start 2 weeks earlier. Other enterprises operate as scheduled and we hope to start harvesting as planned. We are set to complete the rapeseed harvest in 7 days, and the wheat harvest in 20 days tops," comments the deputy chief agronomist.

Previously reported that winter barley yields 4.7 t/ha in Poltava region, 6.8% higher from last year's 4.4 t/ha.
