Continental Farmers Group continues its potato harvesting campaign

Nowadays, the fields of Continental Farmers Group see potato harvesting in full swing. In this production season, the total digging area reaches 1.1 thou. ha in Lviv oblast and 0.6 thou. ha in Ternopil oblast, or 1.7 thou. ha altogether, the company says in a statement.

This year, Continental Farmers Group kept up its tradition of growing the varieties of potatoes suitable for seed, chips, and food production. The agricultural holding intends to complete harvesting potato crops by the end of this September.

The company notes that for years the business of potato growing has maintained its strategic role for the company: in particular, Continental Farmers Group has up-to-date production facilities for potato storage and processing, and owns, among other agricultural machinery, modern equipment for cultivating this particular food crop; in its practice, the company widely applies its own accumulated experience of potato growing.

"In addition, inclusion of potatoes in the crop rotation process improves the company's crop farming yield and helps to differentiate potential risks arising from farming different crops," the message reads.

Having carefully considered all the above factors, Continental Farmers Group intends to enlarge its total potato growing area to 2.2 thou. ha as early as in 2021, and to increase, in a gradual and proportional manner, the percentage of this crop in its general structure for the seasons to come.

As of today, the total potato storage capacity in Continental Farmers Group exceeds 87 thou. t. Georg von Nolcken, CEO of the company, confirmed the commitment to enhance their own potato farming assets and to invest in enlarging the potato storage capacity within the corporate footprint at the earliest juncture.

Continental Farmers Group is completing its first wave of harvesting as the potato harvesting is underway in the fields. The company is also engaged in soil preparation and steps up sowing of early winter crops for the 2021 harvest.
