Grain export 2020/21: staple grains shipment down 18%

Since the start of 2020/21, staple grains export shipment from Ukraine has reached 5.62 mln t.

As of August 21, agricultural commodities shipment dropped by 1.22 mln t (18%) from the prior year's comparative period, 6.84 mln t, the information-analytical portal of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine reports.

Grain export structure in the reporting period:

  • wheat: 3.41 mln t, 153 thou. t or 4% y-o-y
  • barley: 1.7 mln t, 99 thou. t or 6% y-o-y
  • corn: 508 thou. t, 1.17 mln t or 70% y-o-y
  • rye: 0.3 thou. t, 0.2 thou. t or 40% y-o-y

In the 2019/20 season, grains, pulses and flour export from Ukraine totalled the record 57.2 mln t, 6.8 mln t higher YoY (2018/19: 50.4 mln t).

As a reminder, the Ministry for the Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and grain market participants signed the Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding on 17 Aug setting the limit for wheat export from Ukraine in the 2020/21 season at 17.5 mln t, rye 1 thou. t.

The European Union increased import duty for corn, sorghum and rye to EUR 5.48 (USD 6.44) per ton from 12 August 2020.
