Cane raw sugar imports to Ukraine start under tariff quota

Ukraine has started importing cane raw sugar within the tariff quota of 260,000 t, the Economy Ministry reports.

As of May 5, the supply of cane raw sugar made up 26.2 thou. t, the average price per ton is USD 480, the data of the Customs Service show.

It is estimated that the cost of sugar produced from raw sugar, including processing costs, logistics costs and fees, will be about 22-23 thou. UAH/t.

"Uunder the tariff quota provided by the Law "On Establishing Tariff Quota for Imports of Cane Raw Sugar to Ukraine", licences have been issued for imports of 170,000 t of cane raw sugar into the country," the ministry informs.

Total white sugar imports since the start of the 2020/21 season have amounted to 67 thou. t at an average price of 512 USD/t.

30 sugar plants were operating in Ukraine in the 2020/21 sugar production season.

Sugar beet areas in Ukraine are expected to reach 226.9 thou. ha in 2021.
