Northern region of Ukraine completed 47% of plantings, country's second-fastest sowing pace

The agricultural producers of Sumy region have completed winter crops sowing on 80.7 thou. ha, 47.3% of the projected area for the 2022 harvest, the Sumy Region State Administration reports.

Winter crops planting in Sumy region as of Sept. 20:

  • wheat: 76.9 thou. ha, 47.1% of the planned area
  • barley: 0.7 thou. ha, 46.7%
  • rye: 3.1 thou. ha, 53.4%
  • rapeseed: 18 thou. ha, 100%

"According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Sumy region ranks second among the regions of Ukraine in terms of the rate of sowing winter crops," the message reads.

For the 2022 crop, farms in the region will plant winter grains on 170.56 thou. ha, including:

  • wheat: 163.26 thou. ha
  • rye: 5.8 thou. ha
  • barley: 1.5 thou. ha

Winter crops sowing in Ukraine was 17% completed as of September 20.
