Grain shipment in sea ports 50 pct improved

In the week of Oct. 12–18, staple grains shipment in Ukrainian seaports totalled 1.13 mln t, 47% higher from the previous week (767 thou. t), the APK-Inform consultancy reports.

In the reporting period, wheat shipment increased 20% wk/wk from 466 thou. t to 557 thou. t. Barley shipment grew 5x to 100 thou. t. Corn exports were up 68% to 473 thou. t.

The top three importers of grain in the past week are as followed:

  • Indonesia — 148 thou. t;
  • Egypt — 139 thou. t;
  • Bangladesh — 137 thou. t.

The leading position in terms of the transshipment volume of staple grains since the start of 2019/20 is held by the port of Mykolaiv (5.81 mln t). The port of Pivdenny (former Yuzhny) provided for the transshipment of 3.48 mln t, and Chernomorsk — 3.25 mln t.

As of October 21st harvesting of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine was conducted on the area of 13.1 mln ha or 86% of the total. The crop reached 58.9 mln t using the average yield of 4.5 t/ha (2018: 4.07 t/ha).
