Pork import to Ukraine reduced in June
In June, pork imports to Ukraine slightly decreased compared to the previous month: based on customs statistics, in the first month of summer 2.6 thou. t of pork with a total value of USD 5.57 mln was supplied to the domestic market, the Association of Pig Breeders of Ukraine (APU) informs.
"This indicator is almost 20% less than a month earlier," reports the analytical department of the Association Pig Breeders of Ukraine.
The external supply in June decreased by 19.8%, and the price of pork was similarly reduced in the reporting period.
"More intensive import activity in the last two months has reduced the gap between the current inflow of pork from abroad and the totals of the corresponding period of 2019. However, the volume of pork of imported origin in the first half of 2020 on the domestic market is lower by 16% or 1.8 thou. t vs. the first half of 2019," the report reads.
This deviation, experts explain, is comparable to the average monthly import of pork last year. Furthermore, the uncertainty about changes in exchange rates will be the factor, which will affect the import activity in the future.
"With this regard, we can expect that pork imports in the second half of the year will not exceed last year's volume," experts sum up.
Pig farming in Ukraine was dominated by 10 companies in 2019.
