Early grains and legumes yield higher in crop year 2021: Agrarian Ministry

The southern regions of Ukraine, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson, have started early grains and legumes harvesting.

According to Agrarian Ministry's data, crops have been harvested on 75 thou. ha using the average yield of 3.66 t/ha (2020: 2.69 t/ha). Agriproducers have harvested 274.5 thou. t of new crop grain, including:

  • 274.4 thou. t of winter barley on 75 thou. ha, using the average yield of 3.66 t/ha (2020: 3.06 t/ha)
  • 130 t of winter wheat on 50 ha, yielding 2.5 t/ha (2020: 2.22 t/ha)

Farms in Kherson region have harvested 5% of the projected area, the crops yielded 3.52 t/ha on average. The highest average yield so far has been harvested in Odesa region – 4.22 t/ha.

As a reminder, wheat production in Ukraine in the 2021 crop year is expected to exceed 30 mln t.

Wheat production in Ukraine is projected by USDA in its June report at 29.5 mln t in 2021/22.
