Ukrainian wheat production forecast record-high in 2021: Agritel

Ukrainian wheat production is close to exceeding 30 mln t in the 2021 crop year, amid increased plantings and favourable weather conditions, the Agritel consultancy writes.

Wheat production in the country is estimated at 30.5 mln t by Agritel, which conducted a crop tour in Ukraine from 14 to 18 June.

"It should be remembered that the 2020 production was 25.3 mln t. Thus, for the 30th anniversary of its independence, Ukraine is on track to produce more than 30 mln t, a figure never achieved in the past," the report reads.

Wheat production in Ukraine is projected by USDA in its June report at 29.5 mln t in 2021/22. Wheat exports are set at 20.5 mln t, ending stocks at 1.55 mln t.

For the 2021 crop, winter wheat plantings in Ukraine reached 6.1 mln ha, spring wheat 176.02 thou. ha. Wheat yielded 3.83 t/ha on average in 2020.

IGC forecasts the world wheat production at 773 mln t in 2020/21, the projection for 2021/22 is pegged at 789 mln t.
