Dnieper grain transportation 40% up so far 2021
Cargo transportation by the Dnieper river in January-February 2021 totalled 788.9 thou. t, 1.5x more YoY (Jan-Feb 2020: 305.9), the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reports.
There were 757 voyages during the two months, compared to 489 in 2020 (+154.8%).
"Mostly building materials were transported, the volume of which increased by 1.7x and reached 403,300 t. Grain cargoes are the second-largest group. The traffic volume increased by 39% as compared to the last year's figure and amounted to 308.2 thou. t. Besides, metal products are actively transported by the river. During the 2 months of 2021, the volume of metal transportation surged by 3.7x and reached 77.4 thou. t," the report reads.
In the first two months of 2021, port operators handled 20.58 mln t of cargo in Ukrainian seaports, 6.54 mln t or 24.1% less YoY.
